With any dental situation the doctor would always prefer to preserve as much original tooth as possible. When the pulp of the tooth has been injured or is at risk of falling out the dentist can perform endodontic treatment and remove the crown of the tooth exposing the root of the tooth and sterilize the affected area. The procedure requires replacement of the problematic tooth with a crown to complete the procedure. If the infection is too great or the damage is too extensive the doctor may have to extract the tooth and will provide the particular recommendation after examination and consolation with the patient.
